My Life - Chapter Ten

Lucian was expecting us to walk out with Mitchel’s body, not with him alive and walking. I quickly explained it to him. To make sure he wouldn’t run, Rosen had his gun pointed to his side. Olivia stood in front of them to hide it as best as we could. Fortunately, nobody was in the lobby, so we quickly signed Mitchel out.
Outside, it was still raining heavily. We forcefully pushed Mitchel into the car park, and found his car. He didn’t make any objections, so some of our fun was ruined, but we still had the big finish to come.

His car was big enough for all five of us. Lucian and I sat in the front, whilst Rosen, Mitchel and Olivia sat in the back, still holding him at gunpoint. The pier wasn’t too far away, but it was still miserable outside. The sky had almost turned black. There were very few stars in the sky.
Rosen drew the ropes and tape out of his bag and secured his father tightly.
Once he was bound, we kicked him out of the car.
Lucian’s jet black hair was flat and seemed invisible in the twilight. His eyes no longer had a glimmer in them, but a pained look. Olivia’s golden blonde hair wisped around her face.
I could feel the wind tugging at my long brown hair.
On the floor, gagged, and tied up, Mitchel gave me a longing stare. His eyes screamed ‘Help me’. I wouldn’t. I couldn’t.

Rosen levelled with his father. “Do you know why you’re here?”
Mitchel nodded.
“Good. Because after what you’ve done, you deserve a hundred times worse.”
Mitchel looked down, but Rosen grabbed his head up. “Don’t look away from me.” He snarled.
Olivia took a stride towards him. “Rose’ we need to hurry up, I don’t want to look at him for much longer.” She spat on her dad.
Lucian and I just watched for the next few minutes as the prepared for Mitchel’s death.

Rosen ripped the tape off of Mitchel’s mouth and said, “Anything you want to add, monster?”
“Yes, I’m sorry, Rosen, I really am! Please don’t go through with it!” Mitchel was terrified of his son at this very moment. “I’ve learnt my lesson, done my time, I swear!”
Rosen stopped. He just froze. I ran over to him. “Rosen, don’t listen to him! Do it! Do it now! He’s just trying to snivel out of it!” I grabbed a hold of him, and shook him. He just seemed completely oblivious to what was happening.

Olivia was beating her father, screaming various things, such as “This is for mum!” or “See how you like it!” I looked back at her a few times, each time his injuries worsened and increased. Lucian began prying her off once she’d almost knocked him out.
“Olivia, Olivia, let it go.” He slowly dragged her off of her father.
“Not.” She paused as she hit him once more. After a loud crunch, she continued. “Not until he’s dead.” Mitchel was still breathing – only just. It was just enough for him to be able to hear, see and speak, although it probably brought him great pain to do so.

Rosen began to come round of his trance. I was frantically trying to convince him to go through with his original plan.
“Rose’ you need to finish him off. You have to!” I stared into his leafy green eyes. The golden flecks had faded with the recent events. He looked up at me.
“I can’t,” Was all he could say, “I can’t, I can’t, I can’t.”
“Listen to me,” I grabbed his head and cupped it into my hands. “You can do this. You will do this. You have to do this.”
Time felt like it had stopped at that very moment. We were stuck in each other’s eyes. All I could feel was him. All I could see was him. All I wanted was him. I gently leant forwards, pursed my lips, and pressed them against his. It felt even better than I’d imagined. I guess good things come to those who wait. Rosen didn’t pull away from me. We were still getting soaked from the rain. It was like a kiss from a cheesy chick-flick; in the rain and long awaited. The kiss lasted a lifetime, once it was over, Rosen looked up at me, gold flecks intact. He smiled, and kissed me again.

He opened his plump lips to speak, but I put one finger on them, and said “Go. Do it.”
He rose, and pulled the gun from his pocket. He gave it a quick clean with his shirt. His finger was ready on the trigger. Rosen walked up to his father. Lucian grabbed Olivia out of the way.
Mitchel was staring right into my eyes. I rolled my eyes, and looked away, focusing on Rosen. He brought the gun to Mitchel’s head.
“I hope you know it’s your fault for driving Erin away, and her death. Olivia and I only found each other by chance. She’s been living rough for the last few years. And me, well I ran away from the army. For one final mission. To kill you.” Rosen said with almost no emotion.
“Look’s like you’re about to finish that mission.” Mitchel was still staring at me. Then I realised why. Some of his ropes were loose, some undone. He could escape, provided he had the strength. I was surprised Rosen hadn’t seen this.

Mitchel leapt up and punched his son in the face. Rosen dropped the gun. I screamed.

My Life - Chapter Nine

We stood there, looking at each other, completely dumfounded.
“Do you know what room?” I asked, hoping for that piece of key information.
“Yes, 3B, the next floor.”
“Well what are we waiting for?” We all glanced at each other and smiled. Rosen lunged for his bag. It had various ropes and duct tape, along with his gun. It had a silencer on, with one round of shots. We devised a plan that Lucian would guard the door, making sure nobody got in or out of Mitchel’s hotel room. I would scope the room, closing the room off to everyone else so nobody could catch us. Olivia and Rosen would both make their father pay. I didn’t particularly want to see them blow his brains out, but for the sake of our sanity, it had to be done.

“Robyn, you’re the only one he doesn’t know. You need to knock on the door; otherwise he’ll recognise our voices.” Rosen whispered his warm breath into my ear.
“What do I say?” I tried to stay calm, but I was panicking inside.
“Just say something like housekeeping or room service?” Olivia suggested.
I nodded, and positioned myself in front of the door. I took a deep breath, and knocked on the door three times, “Housekeeping,”
I heard rustling inside the room, then a loud shout, “It’s open.”
I turned to face Rosen, and nodded. He swung the door open, Olivia and I followed. Lucian stood guard outside.

I’d assumed Mitchel was in the bathroom or his bedroom, since he wasn’t in the living area. I crept up to the windows and shut the curtains. We sat and waited on the soiled sofas for our victim to return. A sudden wave of realisation came over me. If we killed him here and now, how would we get him out of here? It’s not like you can drag a corpse through the town, is it?
“Rose’, we can’t kill him here.” I kept my voice low. Olivia and Rosen faced me with shocked looks. “We’ll get caught; there’s no way we can get his body out without someone noticing. Also, our prints will be all over this room if we leave him. We need to take him away. Alive.”
They stared at each other, without words, they came to a decision.
“You’re right. We need to ‘kidnap’ him.” He air quoted the word kidnap.
“Okay, so change of plans, we’ll still confront him here, and then we need to get him down to the car park, take his car, drive him down to the pier, and make our final move. It will be dark by then, trust me.”

We barely had time to agree before Mitchel came out of another door.
“What the hell?” He was confused. He gazed over at his two children. “Rosen? Olivia?”
They snarled in synchronisation. Rosen took a huge step towards his dad. “Say another word and you die, okay?”
Mitchel nodded in fear of his life. “That’s hardly fair, Rosen, since he’s going to die anyway.” Olivia thought of a sassy line. I smiled at her, but Rosen’s harsh stare changed that. His eyes pierced through mine. I could see the anger building up inside of him, bubbling at every enraging moment. He would give in to his emotions at some point.

I swept the room clean. It was almost as if we’d never even been there. I wiped our prints off of the surfaces, and we left with Mitchel.
He must have been in his mid-forties now. His bronze hair was now a faded, rusty brown. I could tell the Olivia and Rosen were his children. They had the same eyes. Rosen especially looked like his father as they had the same features. In his prime time, Mitchel was obviously quite the looker. I wondered what Erin would have looked like now, and I’m sure the others did too. It was like a family reunion, except there weren’t any happy memories this meet would bring.

My Life - Chapter Eight

“Rosen, I’ve got something I need to te-“
Kara burst in the door before I could finish. “Hi guys. Rose’ could you come out here?” Lucian followed after her. I’m 99% sure he felt the same as me about her. He and Rosen were best friends, after all.
“Hey, one second Robyn. Kara needs me.”
I sighed, and let him go. “Sure.”
They left, and after about a minute, all I heard was a bunch of angry shouts.

“What the hell! Why didn’t you tell me this earlier?” Rosen screamed. Lucian and I shot each other concerned looks. We crawled up to the door, and listened in on their conversation.
“I’m sorry. I was just waiting for the right time.” Kara sounded like she was crying.
There was a brief silence.
“I missed you.” Rosen was a lot quieter this time round.
“You too, buddy.”

How could they miss each other? We’ve been on a man-hunt for over 3 weeks, together this whole time.
That’s when it hit me. Kara wasn’t who she appeared to be. Her ‘experience’ with dangerous men revolved around one man. Her father. Rosen’s father. They were brother and sister.
Kara wasn’t Kara, she was Olivia Clay.

Lucian also seemed to discover this, as he mouthed ‘Oh My God’ to me.
We returned to our original positions. I no longer had to worry about ‘Kara’ being in the way. Rosen wouldn’t fall in love with his little sister. My chances had just doubled. With a sudden flair of hope, I smiled, for the first time in months, I actually smiled. I had something to look forward to.
Rosen and Olivia came back in, tears streaming down their cheeks.
“Meet Olivia, my sister.” Rosen cried.
Olivia let out a small cry of joy. No words could explain her happiness, but her eyes said it all.
“Welcome home,” Lucian brought the pair of them into a warm embrace, then gestured for me to join them. Just like one, big, happy family, we laughed and talked over dinner.

I took up a mothering role to them, and cooked almost every night, except for when we shifted around and ordered takeaways. Olivia and I grew closer each day, slowly becoming best friends. I trusted her 100% and confident she and Rosen would get revenge on their father.
Rosen was usually preoccupied trying to find his father. So far, after a month of being in Beakbank, we’d caught sight of Mitchel twice. Rosen grew impatient and angrier every minute. It was understandable, but it was really taking a toll on our relationship. Olivia seemed to be able to calm him down quite a lot, but Lucian and I were almost powerless.

I was starting to get comfortable in Beakbank despite its reputation of danger, violence and nastiness in general. I still wouldn’t go out after dark on my own. I needed one of the boys to take me to the corner shop down the road. It wasn’t the reputation that bothered me, it was the idea that Mitchel was walking the streets a free man.

Rosen came running into our room. “I think I’ve found something.” He had a huge grin on his face. The four of us huddled together whilst Rosen explained. “I was in the lobby, asking about our room’s bill, when the receptionist left for a few moments. Nobody else was around, so I took it upon myself to have a quick look in the guest book. They have a registered Mitchel Clay here. He’s in this building.”

My Life - Chapter Seven

Kara was already a better friend to me than all of the girls in my school, and I wanted to get to know her better. From her ‘experience’, Kara knew what to do to get out of sticky situations.
Lucian was utterly gorgeous, and his smooth, suave manner made him the full package. His charm allowed him to convince anyone into doing anything for him.

But Rosen was on another level of sexiness. Every time he popped into my head, I couldn’t get him out. I wanted to help him find his monster of a dad, and hopefully his sisters. From his soft, fluffy hair, to his exquisite eyes, he really was something else. He was strong, physically and mentally. He could have given up all those years ago, but no, he kept going. Some people were born to follow, some were born to lead. Rosen was a leader. Our leader.

Together we could be an elite team of trackers.
Together we could right wrongs.
Together we could kill.

“We leave tonight, if we want to get the job done as soon as possible.” Rosen instructed. “We will meet again outside here.”
We all agreed that the best way to break the news to my family would be to leave a note for them, then give them a call some time to let them know I’m still alive.
Time passed too quickly, and before I knew it the sun had begun to set. I had my note prepared. Holding the tears back, I dropped it on the kitchen table. Nobody was home. I took one last look at my home, and then walked out the door.
I looked around the deserted library. It looked creepy at night. I heard footsteps behind me, slowly increasing as they got nearer.
“Boo!” Lucian tried to make me jump. I rolled my eyes at his childish behaviour.
“Where’s Rosen and Kara?”
“They’re coming, not too far behind me.” Rosen and Kara rocked up shortly after the words left his mouth.
“Sorry we’re late.” Kara spoke softly.
Once our team was all there, we left without a trace. It was really dark out this time of night. I made sure I had their numbers, should I get into trouble. I ignored the various messages from my mother, and declined all their calls. I cried a little inside each time I was notified they were distraught and terrified for my safety. I would return one call once I reach Beakbank.

Our train was a little late, and by the time it got here, it began to rain really heavily. I was soaked head-to-toe, as were the others. We sat together, but rarely spoke. What could we talk about? How we were going to murder Mitchel? Not likely. I leant my head on the window, and began to drift off into a gentle slumber. The cool glass felt good against my hot skin. I heard Lucian mumble “Sweet dreams,”

For the next few nights, I didn’t have sweet dreams. They were replaced with nightmares, nightmares so surreal, that I could feel every single movement my dream-self made. I could also remember each tiny detail, no matter how irrelevant they were, like the colour of a stranger’s eye, or the name of a stray cat, I would know everything about it.

The hotel we were in this week was run down, like most places here. I didn’t want to touch anything in fear of catching a disease. One night, they left me alone in the hotel room. I briefly looked at my phone, to find it vibrating with over 100 messages. I decided to take a look at them. Most of them were from my mum and dad. I sent a message to each of my family members. They each had the same meaning; I’m fine and alive.
One message caught my eye in particular; it was from my little sister. She must have gotten a hold of mum’s phone or something, but she had gone out of her way just to talk to me. I pondered on calling her back, but decided against it, as Rosen came back early.

There was a hole in my heart, from my family, and there was one person who could fill it.
Rosen must have sensed my sadness, and tried to comfort me. Ever since Kara had joined our team, I felt a little insignificant. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got nothing against her, but it just feels like I’ve been ‘replaced’. I wanted to be Rosen’s golden girl. I deserve a little happiness, don’t I?

My Life - Chapter Six

When I arrived, I couldn’t see either of them, I did however, notice a girl sitting alone. She had golden hair and green eyes, with dark rings around them which made her look a lot older. She had olive skin, which complimented her eyes. She had a very petite frame, but she looked like she packed a lot of muscle into her tiny body. She looked up at me. I guessed she sensed I was staring at her.

“Hi, do you mind if I sat here?” I asked her.
“Sure,” She didn’t seem bothered.
“I’m waiting for my friends.”
“Cool,” She stared back at her paper and continued to read.
“Yeah, Rosen and Lucian,” She froze as I mentioned the boys.
“Oh, uh, what are you guys doing?” She suddenly seemed interested, as she put the book down.

“It’s kind of a secret, but I guess I could tell you.”
She nodded. I opened my mouth to explain our plan and what we’re going to do, when the boys burst through the door.
“Hey guys,” I said instead. “This is, uh, sorry you never mentioned your name? I’m Robyn”
“O- I mean Kara.” Kara said blushing.
Lucian smiled his cocky little grin, “Always a pleasure to meet a pretty girl.” He went to kiss her hand, but she pulled away.
“Good things come to boys who wait.” She smiled. “So, what are you doing?”
“We’re going to hu-“Rosen interrupted me.
“Robyn! What are you doing! Don’t tell everyone or else we’ll never get anywhere!” He was angry.

“It’s okay, if you don’t want to tell me, it’s fine.”
“No, no I think we can trust you.” Lucian sided with me. Rosen rolled his eyes. “If it means I get to spend more time with a little lady, its fine by me.”
“We’re going on a mission, to kill a man.” I said with ease. I couldn’t believe the sentence was actually coming out of my mouth, but it was, and 100% true.
Kara looked shocked, but then asked “Who?”

“My father,” Rosen added in an icy tone. Kara seemed to run it all through her mind. She wasn’t too fazed by it.
“I want in.” She smiled. “I’ve had a history with dangerous men. What’s this guy like?”
This time, I was shocked at her response; Kara looked too young to have any experience with guys in general. Rosen and Lucian looked equally shocked.
“He’s a murderer. He killed my mother, and frequently beat me and my sisters.” Rosen answered. “You can join, just as long as you keep to your word, and kill this monster.”
Lucian and I kind of stared at each other whilst Kara and Rosen talked. His eyes twinkled under the lights, making his hair shine. Rosen and Kara were in deep conversation. She almost seemed like a different person to the shy, reluctant to talk, seemingly innocent girl. With all the talk of murder, she seemed intrigued, and dangerous. I noticed Rosen taking an interest in her curiosity of the matter, which I didn’t know if it was a good or bad thing. Lucian almost looked jealous of Rosen, maybe it was because he got all the girls, then again, he shouldn’t feel too disheartened since he is an ‘Italian Stallion’.

“Looks like we’ve got a new recruit.” Lucian whispered to me.  I smiled at his remark. I hadn’t noticed how close we were standing, but I was constantly reminded how close Rosen and Kara looked. I mean, they almost looked like Siamese twins, they were that close.
Rosen looked over at us, and said “We need to leave by the end of the week. We’ve found a few leads and a good idea of his location.”
“So where exactly are we going?”
“Beakbank.” He grimaced as he mentioned the town. Beakbank is single-handedly one of the most dangerous places in the country. It’s full of drug-dealers, criminals, and people you don’t want to get involved with. It wasn’t exactly a surprise that Mitchel would pick Beakbank as his hideout, he would blend in nicely in such an awful place.

Kara didn’t look too bothered by Beakbank’s reputation. “Great,” She clapped her hands. “And how do we get there without getting killed ourselves?” I detected the sarcasm in her voice.
“First we’re going to have to get a train to Brooklawn, and then make our way into Beakbank, staying on the ‘safer’ side. I’ve found a couple of motels in our area that we can swap from on a weekly basis.” Rosen had it all worked out.

“We have a few problems, for starters, money. How are we going to afford this? Secondly, how are we going to find him? Beakbank’s a huge place, and for all we know he could have people working for him, waiting for us to strike. If we do find him, how are we going to find any weapon to do the job, and do it without getting caught? And finally, what happens afterwards? Do we split up and never see each other again? Do we run away? What are we going to do?” I had a million questions, but selected the ones we were all thinking.

“Money-wise, I think I can muster up a bit, can you guys do the same?” We nodded, he continued. “I know a couple of people in the area, plus combining that with what we already know, we’ve got a pretty good idea of where he is. Knowing my dad, he wouldn’t keep too many friendships, since they can’t put up with him. He’s probably got at least one ‘friend’ but how deep that friendship is, we won’t know until we meet him, will we? I have no idea what’s going to happen when we get there, but as soon as we find him, we will be following him all day, finding every single thing out about him, until we know his daily routine. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.” His lips spread into a cocky grin. Lucian looked a bit petrified of the task before us.

“Well,” Kara paused. “We best get going if we want him dead.”
Lucian opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out, instead I spoke. “Look’s like we’ve got a plan.”
“Uh, question,” Lucian shyly put his hand up, “How do we break the news to or families?”
“You wanted to get away from Isabella, so just leave. I don’t have anyone, Kara hasn’t got anyone. Robyn I really don’t know about you, phone call maybe? A note or just leave.”

How could I just get up and walk away from my family? I mean, I’m sure they would care, but sometimes it just doesn’t feel like it. I know Shaylie would miss me, and it would probably tear my family apart, but something about these three strangers enticed me, made me want to follow them in their journey.

My Life - Chapter Five

“Uh, guys, I hate to break it to you, but before we can go anywhere, we need to know where we’re going.” I told Lucian and Rosen. They looked disappointed. “I need to go home soon, and when I get in, I’ll search him up, see if I can get any idea where he is.”
“Thanks Robyn, you’re the best.” Rosen hugged me. It felt so special, like I finally meant a lot to someone, and even better that it was Rosen. I didn’t know what Lucian looked like right now, but he didn’t sound too happy when we broke away.

“See you tomorrow, Robyn. Meet us in the library in town tomorrow. You’ve got school, haven’t you?”
I nodded, “I can skip it if you want, it’s not like I want to go.”
“That would be better, say 9 am?”
“Deal. Bye guys.” I kissed them both on the cheek, and left them be.
I was running away with two guys I’d met today. I was definitely crazy.

When I got home, I prepared myself for the lecture of a lifetime. I was pleasantly surprised that my mum didn’t care, and my dad wasn’t home. Shaylie however, was a different matter. She’d found the doll I’d defaced last night, and she was not a happy bunny. I apologized, and she left me alone. I went straight to my room to do some research on Rosen’s dad.

After at least an hour, I finally found something, but it was about his runaway sisters.
‘Erin Clay, 10, was reported missing last night, claiming she ran away after her sister who was also reported missing last week. It is unlikely the duo will be found. The search for Olivia and Erin Clay has begun, however it is short lived as the body of a young girl fitting the description of Erin was found near-‘
I couldn’t bring myself to read the last part. I didn’t really want to know that Rosen’s sister was dead. I wondered if Rosen knew that she was gone, and I didn’t want to be the one to break the news to him. I continued to search for a Mitchel Clay, but I was falling asleep. I dragged myself into my warm, comfortable bed, and drifted off into a calm dream.

One minute I was in Italy with Lucian and Isabella, then in another I was back on the bench with Rosen. The last part of the whole dream was Shay running away, Simon and I fighting, and a gunshot. I woke up with my heart beating out of my chest. I was hot and sweaty, so I took a shower and tried to forget about my dream, and focus on the day ahead.

I packed another outfit which I could change into, but I decided on meeting the boys in my uniform. I didn’t take anywhere as near as much food as I did yesterday, but I still took my lunch and some snacks for Rosen and Lucian. I left a little bit earlier than usual, but I figured that my parents wouldn’t notice.

On my way to the library, I thought about how I would break the news to my family that I was running away. Leave a note? A phone call?  Leave without notice?
I imagined Shay’s face as she found a note, or received the call. She would be devastated – heartbroken even.

My Life - Chapter Four

I just realized what the time was, school should have finished about 10 minutes ago, so I told my mum I was staying behind at homework club. Lucian invited me into his house. He was not much younger than Rosen, about a month or two.

Once inside, I looked around. It was a complete mess. In all honesty, I wanted to clean it up more than anything. The boys didn’t seem bothered, but I insisted on making it homelier. They didn’t object, and I forced them to help. After at least an hour and a half, Lucian’s sister came home.
“Lucian Santini! When did you tell me we had guests?” She also had a strong Italian accent, and the same black hair. They almost looked like twins, but I could tell she was older than him. Her name was Isabella, Bella for short.

“Bella, I did not know Rosen was bringing Robyn over! Mi dispiace.” Lucian apologised.
“It is okay, piccolo fratello.” Isabella told her brother, flicking her midnight black hair out of her jade eyes, which were now focused on me. “Robyn, it is very nice to meet you, are you a friend of Lucian’s or Rosen’s?”
“Rosen, and you too.” I smiled at her. She was nice enough to not say anything else about Rosen and I. Well there was no Rosen and I, we just met today. I felt he barely knew me, but I knew his whole life story.

Rosen took me up to his room. I knew he was either going to tell me to get lost, or to talk.
“Robyn, I’m sorry I lost it earlier, I didn’t mean to lash out at you. It’s just that it’s a stupid idea that we could find Erin and Olivia. They’re lost, I know they are. How could Erin escape from kidnappers when she wasn’t even a teenager? I mean, there’s already been a search party for both of them, they gave up years ago, if they couldn’t find them, what makes you think we can?”
I stared at the ground. “I know, but I just wanted to make you feel better.” There was a moment of silence. I looked up to find him once again staring at me. “What about your father? Is there a chance we can find him?”
He thought about it for a minute. “I guess we could try. But what happens when we actually find him?”

I shuffled closer to him. “Do you think you could do it? Put a bullet in his head?”
“I want him to pay for what he’s done.”
“Would you rather he suffered, or just killed him on the spot?”
“I want him to be in as much pain as he caused.”
“Turn him in to the police, he could get charged with the murders of your sisters and mother.”
“I can’t.”
I was about to ask why, but then I remembered, he’s also on the run from the army. If they catch him, they’ll send him back, and there’s no way he can go back, not after he ran away.
“Guess we’re on a man-hunt then.” A smile spread across his face.
“Would,” He paused. “Would you join me, Robyn?” He held out his hand.
I was tempted to run away with Rosen, to help him hunt down his dad. Sure it’d be a tale to tell the grandkids, but I could die doing this. What would happen to my family, would they miss me? The biggest decision of my life was about to be made. I had no chance to think it through.
“Only if you promise to keep me and not ditch me halfway through?” I smiled at him, and grabbed his hand, still with my phone number on, and shook it.
“Welcome to the crew.”

“Hey guys, mind if I come in?” Lucian knocked on the door.
“Come in, bro’.” Rosen called. Lucian swung the door open, half-dancing as he walked in. I giggled like a schoolgirl, wait I was a schoolgirl, not for long though, since I was about to go on a mad hunt for an evil man, and possibly become a criminal.
“What did you want anyway?” Rosen asked Lucian.
Lucian sighed, and turned to face us, “You got to help me get away from Isabella. She’s driving me insane. I mean, big sister yeah, but that aside she’s goddamn annoying!”
Rosen and I laughed, and then looked at each other, he nodded. “I have just the ticket.”

“You come with us, on the journey of a lifetime.” Rosen jumped in.
“Oh yeah, where to?” Lucian suddenly seemed interested.
“To kill my father.” Rosen said with face as straight as a statue.
Lucian’s eyes widened with fear. “You can’t be serious? With her? You guys just met!”
“She gave me the idea, and it’s more than you did!” Rosen was shouting now.
Lucian began to look angrier. “I gave you a house, and I hid you from the police! You’re just going to give that all away for some stupid idea that you could kill your father?!”
“Yep.”

Lucian stopped for a moment, and looked his cousin in the eye. “I’m in.”
They shook hands, and laughed. I sat awkwardly on the bed.
“Come here,” They both gestured for me to join them in the centre. They held their arms out for a hug, we lingered there for a moment. It was from then on we would work together as a team to hunt down and kill Mitchel Clay, the man responsible for the death of Serena Clay.

My Life - Chapter Three

“What the hell? My name’s not Blake!”
“Oh yeah, then why’d the driver tell me otherwise?”
“I don’t know, maybe to mess with you?” I sensed a hint of truth in his voice, but I just didn’t know who to believe; a bus driver who took this route every single day, or a gorgeous stranger I’d met only a couple of hours ago.
“I’m sorry. What should I call you from now on? I mean, what is your real name?”

Rolling his eyes, he replied. “Rosen Clay. I occasionally use the name Blake Seares as a fake name for when I’m out-“
I cut him off “What? Why would you need a fake name?” I probably should have let him finish.

“If you’d let me finish? Anyway, I use a fake name since I ran away from the army. My mum, she wasn’t in a good state, since I’d left her and my life to join the army. My dad used to knock me, my mum and my two sisters around quite a lot. I figured now that he was older, and I’d frequently taught him a lesson, he wouldn’t dare to lay a finger on them. But he did. I used to receive letters each day from my mother, telling me how awful he was, and what he’d done to my sisters, Erin and Olivia. They’re quite a few years younger than me, I’d take a guess around 13-14, maybe 15 now. Olivia ran away. Erin followed, and got abducted by a bunch of guys in a gang. It was all over the news a few years ago. Nobody knows where Olivia is, but she’s a tough girl, so I’m still hoping she’s alive somehow, somewhere. My mum however, was nowhere near as strong, mentally and physically. He took advantage of this, and exploited her weaknesses.” Rosen paused for a moment. He almost looked like he was snarling at the thought of his father. I held his hand in comfort, and stroked it every couple of minutes.

“One night he beat her within an inch of life. He came to his senses and called for an ambulance, but lied, and said she fell down the stairs or some other pathetic excuse. A couple of days after, I received a letter, formally announcing my mother’s death. I was given a few days leave, and in this time I planned her funeral. I wanted to pay a visit to the man who ripped my family apart – my father, but it wasn’t possible since he’d already skipped town, without a trace. I went back to the army for a while, thinking it all through in my head and what I needed to do.”

I stared back at Rosen for a while, “What was it?” I was hooked into his life story.
“I needed to hunt him down, and kill him.” Rosen went from the seemingly sweet stranger I’d met on the town bench, to a ruthless killing machine. I hadn’t seen him in action, and I didn’t plan to. What he was saying was completely justified, I mean, the man who killed your mother deserves to die right? Anyone who kills another does. I don’t doubt that Rosen could do it, but there was a part of me that didn’t want him to do it. I needed to say something, but I was so shocked from his story to even summon something up. Luckily he broke my silence.

“Oh and the driver, he knows about the army thing, but not the rest of it, he just sees a coward who ran away from a fight. He’s keeping a bargain on my behalf, he uses my fake name to address me, not the Rosen Clay that belongs in the army.”
“That explains a lot, Rosen. Oops, I mean Blake.”
“Call me Rosen, I prefer it to Blake, since it’s not a lie.”
“You’ve lived through so much; it’s unbelievable you’re still standing.” I genuinely admired him.
Rosen smiled at me, “Makes your life look like a piece of cake, huh?”
I nodded, feeling like an idiot for being so shallow. “But it doesn’t make it any easier.”
“Just think, your little sister’s safe and sound, unlike Erin and Olivia, heck I haven’t seen them since I was 14. I can’t even remember their birthdays, it’s been that long! The only memories and identification I have left of them is one tiny picture on my phone of them.” He showed me said picture. There were young girls, one with the same blonde-brown hair as Rosen, the other with dark brown, almost black hair. “The tall one’s Olivia.” She looked just like her big brother, the same leafy green eyes, but with darker skin. Erin looked a lot younger, with her ebony hair and pale skin, she almost looked like Snow White. Rosen took his phone back as I heard him sniffle ever so slightly. I reassured him by gently rubbing his shoulders.

“We’ll find them,” I said, without thinking.
“We? What do you mean we?” He stared straight at me; unlike he had earlier when he was avoiding my eyes, this time he was locked straight onto me. “How are we going to find two girls that are lost in another town, with one picture as evidence, when we’re a 16 year old girl and a runaway soldier?” He sounded angry I’d mentioned it; then again it was a touchy subject.
“I-I’m sorry, what I’d meant wa-“
“No, you didn’t think, did you, Robyn? You just don’t understand!” He got up, and walked off of the bus. I followed after him, trailing behind.
“Rosen, where are you staying?” We were outside in the rain, in a deserted part of Foxford. It looked a lot like a shifty alleyway. I didn’t want to be alone in this alley, but Rosen was here. Well, at least for now. I was certain he would protect me if something attacked me, but then again I was the one who put him in a bad mood.
He sighed and turned to face me. We were about 3 inches apart. “With my cousin, Lucian.”
“Does he know?” It felt like a stupid question, and Rosen agreed, judging by the look on his face.

“What do you think?” His expression went from adorable to annoyed in less than half a second.
I was left speechless, but luckily Lucian came running out of one of the houses nearby.
“Hey Rose’.” He had a slight Italian accent, and boy was it hot. He had jet black hair, lightly tanned skin, and smouldering black eyes. It was hard deciding which of the two was better looking. They were in different classes; Rosen had the adorable factor, whilst Lucian just had that Italian charm, even though I’d heard him say two words. “Who’s this?” He said, pointing to me.

“Robyn, meet Lucian, Lucian meet Robyn.” Rosen introduced us.
“Always a pleasure to meet one of Rosen’s lucky ladies.” Lucian grabbed my hand, and kissed it.
I smiled, but what did he mean by ‘One of Rosen’s lucky ladies’? I was about to ask, but Rosen got in before me.
“She’s just a friend.”
Lucian began to smile, and then looked at me with a sexy glare. “Sei bellissima, ti preghiamo potrei rubare un bacio fuori una bella signora?” He spoke in his native language, Italian. I was flattered, however all I understood was beautiful girl, I think.
“He said: You’re beautiful, let me kiss you.” Rosen sounded unimpressed.
“Hey! It was not! And it sounds a lot sexier coming from me.”
I stood there, looking awkward, not knowing what to say. I wasn’t going to kiss him, even if he was Italian and utterly gorgeous.

My Life - Chapter Two

“Sure,” I mentally kicked myself. He handed me one of his death-sticks which I cautiously put in my mouth.
“I’m Rosen by the way.” He said with a smug smile on his face, which made him just that little bit more adorable. Gah cute strangers offering me cigarettes, Robyn Clarke, what are you doing? Rosen drew out a lighter as I replied “Robyn,”
He lit mine up, and handed the lighter to me.
“Light me up, baby.” He near enough ordered me. I obediently lit his cigarette, and took a puff out of mine. It tasted awful, absolutely disgusting. I nearly choked on the intensity of the smoke.
“You a first-timer?”Rosen gave me a sarcastic glare.
I looked at the ground with a shy grin on my face and said “Yes,”
“Awee, you get used to it.”

“So, Rosen, shouldn’t you be in school?”
“I was going to ask you the same question, but since you asked so nicely, nope, I dropped out about 2 years ago.”
“Wait, whoa, how old are you? 18?”
He gave me a slow, mocking, clap. “Well done, detective Robyn.” I politely laughed at his lame joke. He turned to face me, staring right into my eyes. “So why aren’t you in school, Robyn?”
I rolled my eyes, “Because I’m public enemy number one.” We both laughed, and talked for what seemed like hours. Rosen, even though we had just met, was by far my favourite person in the whole of Foxford.

I forgot all about my plan to sneak back into school, it wasn’t really worth it if Harlow and Megan were just going to constantly harass me, plus Rosen’s so much more interesting than listening to Mr Dean go on about rock formations. The afternoon sun beating heavily down on us, we decided to part ways, but to meet again sometime.
“Here’s my number, you know, if you want to call me anytime, I’m always free since you know, no school on the agenda.” Rosen waved a piece of paper in front of me. I snatched it from him, and put it in my pocket, drew out a pen, grabbed his hand and scrawled mine on it.

“Nice to meet you, Ms Clarke,” Rosen bowed like a gentleman, I laughed at him. He began to limp away. Maybe it was just a cramp or something from sitting down for so long, but then I noticed the dried blood stains underneath his left buttock.
“Hey, Rosen, what’s that on your left, uh side of your butt?” I asked him as he leant on a bus stop sign.

“It’s nothing, don’t worry about it.” His bus stopped directly in front of us. “This is kind of my bus, so see you. I’ll call you.” He waved, but I followed him onto the bus.
“I’m not getting off until you tell me what’s wrong.”
Rosen opened his mouth to speak, but the driver cut him off, addressing me. “Hey, little lady,” He pointed at me, and then gestured for me to come over. My heart sank as I remembered I’d spent all of my money.
“Y-yes?” I said in a shaky voice.
“To ride the bus, you need to pay, so please be a sweetheart and pay the fare?”
“Oh, um, I’m really sorry, I don’t have any money left. I only came on to talk to Rosen.”
“Rosen? That’s Blake Seares, He’s a nobody, or at least someone you don’t want to get involved with. What on Earth would you want from him?”
So many questions raced through my mind, why did he lie about his name to me? What made him a nobody, and why didn’t I want to get involved with him? My silence became a cause for concern, as the driver began to look very impatient.
“How about I let you sit with Rosen/Blake, just this once for free, and you pay me back another time?”

I grinned, “Thank you so much!”
He muttered something, but I didn’t quite catch it. I hurried to the back of the bus where whatever-his-name-was was sitting. I heard him sigh when I appeared in front of him.
“You can’t get rid of me that easily,” I paused. “Blake.
His eyes widened as I mentioned his name.

My Life - Chapter One

I was going to skip lesson 1 and 2. I really couldn’t face having Mr Davis first thing, AND then Mrs Stevens straight after. Planning ahead, I was going to sneak back in at break, just in time for history and drama. My plan was going well until Shaylie burst in my room, dressed as a fairy, listening to me babble on about skipping school, and watching me pack my bags with extra clothes, my iPod and headphones, along with my secret stash of food. I was just shoving the last bag of popcorn in my bag, when the small, but annoying voice of my little sister boomed in my ear.

“I’m telling!” She said as she ran off. I immediately dropped my bags, and ran after her.
“Shaylie! Come back!” I shouted behind her. She stopped, turned around, and pulled a funny face at me. She stuck her tongue out and said;
“Make me!”
I took this chance to lunge forwards and grab her. Shaylie wasn’t fast enough, and I dragged her back to my room.
“Let me go!” Shay protested.
Once she was in my room, I shut the door and stood in front of it, to make sure she wouldn’t escape.

“Shay, what do you think I’m going to do today?” She looked at me with a very confused face. I gestured towards my bag, and she let out a sigh.
“I don’t know,” She paused to think. “Eat all the popcorn and drink all the Pepsi?”
I smiled at her innocence. I really loved my little sister sometimes.
“Here,” I took a packet of popcorn out for her. “Have this as a snack at break time, but don’t tell mum, okay?”
She grinned, and grabbed the popcorn from my hands. Shaylie then held out her arms for a hug, and I bent down for her. We hugged for a while, until she told me she needed to finish getting ready, since she was dressed as a fairy, not in her uniform. She skipped out of the door in the cutest, childish manner.

I was fully dressed in my uniform, which I hated to bits. Today I opted for a skirt, but then again I wouldn’t be wearing it for long. Our uniform consists of a shirt/blouse, tie, trousers or a skirt, a grey jumper (in the winter) and a blazer. I slung my bags on my shoulders, and hopped out the door, with a slight spring in my step. I told mum I would get something to eat on the way.

I found some public toilets, and quickly got changed out of that atrocious outfit, and into my comfortable shorts, tank top and cardigan. My top was blue with stripes on, my shorts denim. I shoved my uniform into my bag, but being careful enough not to crease it too much.

Feeling good, I walked along the road to nowhere until I finally came across the town. I quickly found a Subway, and got a sandwich. I decided this would be my lunch for the day, since I wasn’t going to eat at school, so I got out the assorted goodies from my bag. I trailed along the streets in search of a bench. I had already walked halfway down before I found a seat free. Who knew Eagleway would be so busy this time of day?

The bench I’d finally chosen was occupied by a young guy, 16, 17 maybe? He looked like he was trying to do the same as me; get a few hours away from hell.
“Hey, is this seat taken?” I asked as sweetly as I could.
He had headphones in, and couldn’t hear me completely. He gave me a strange look, and then took them out.
“What?” I could hear his music blaring out of his headphones, my favourite band playing.
“Is this seat taken?” I repeated, pointing at the empty seat next to him.
“Uhh, no I guess.” He replied, avoiding eye contact with me. I caught them a few times, noting that they were a leafy green with flecks of gold. His hair was a cross between blonde and brown, somewhere in the middle. Like a golden brown. It was kind of messy, but in a cute way.

He began to draw something from his pocket, and then I realized it was a cigarette packet.
“You want one?” He offered, with one hanging out of his mouth. I didn’t know how to answer; if I said yes, I would be making the biggest mistake of my life, and if I said no, I would look like a total chicken.
Guess what I did?

My Life - Prologue

(This was a short story I wrote for an English class, I'll do my best to split it up into little bits :-) )
My name is Robyn, Robyn Clarke. I am 16 years, 7 months and 3 days old. I have a big brother, Simon, and a little sister, Shaylie. My parents are still together, well, for now at least. They’re always at each other’s throats. I wouldn’t be surprised if one killed the other. My dad, George, works 24/7. He wants the best for us. Simon has a part-time job at his friend’s dad’s garage. He’s training to be a mechanic. My mum, Joanne, is an unemployed, stay-at-home mum. She just cooks and cleans. No biggy. She makes it out to be like hell, when she’s not the one who works 24/7, or is in hell 24/7. In a way I envy her, or Shaylie and Simon.

Shaylie’s too innocent to have a real perspective on life. The worst thing in her opinion is someone taking her Barbies. FYI Shay, they can take a LOT worse… I hate her dolls; they remind me of every girl in my school, well nearly. There are a few ‘normal’ girls.
Sometimes I take Shay’s dolls, the ones she doesn’t like or her old ones, and pretend they are the real girls who hate my guts. I imagine what I would do to them if were left alone in a room with them, weapons at my disposal. I’m not normally a violent person, it’s just they really make my blood boil.

Simon only lives with us at the weekends; he stays on campus the rest of the week, away from the hell hole. I often wonder how he managed it. Simon was never popular. He preferred independence. He was never bothered by people calling him names, ignoring him or anything. He just kept going.
“Don’t let them win,” He once told me.
I admire my big brother, in many ways more than one. He’s a talented musician, he can play guitar, drums, and sing.
I only hope that one day I can compare to him, but I know I never will. Simon will always be the ‘Golden Child’ of the family. I will never compare to him, neither will Shaylie, but everyone loves her because she’s young and cute.

I know where my mother’s priorities lie; Shaylie, Simon, Me.
Simon goes to college outside of town. Foxford is a town the size of a peanut. No seriously, it’s got to be the smallest town in existence. I came from the city, where people hustle and bustle around the streets, in huge crowds. Shopping centers the size of Foxford itself! And the houses, oh my, they were massive, and beautiful! Everybody either had an apartment in the central town square, or a mansion on the outskirts. We we’re just in the middle, not rich but not poor. We had a good life, until Dad’s firm told him they needed him to move somewhere new, to expand the company. So here I am, in the sleepy, boring, idle town of Foxford.
I would say I hate it here, but that would be an understatement.
I had it all, now I have nothing.

I live for the weekends, school is like a prison. If it wasn’t for my cute drama teacher, I don’t think I would bother. Okay maybe I would go just to oogle at some guys who are way out of my league, and I’m invisible to. Then again, Megan and Harlow are in every single one of my classes.
I was one of the ‘popular girls’ in my school. I was beautiful, smart and sexy. Here I stick out like a sore thumb. Everyone is either a total idiot, or insanely smart. I mean, I wouldn’t say I was nerdy back home, but it certainly looks like it now. All of ‘my crowd’ i.e. ‘beautiful people’, are complete morons, or total b*tches.

Take Jenni for example, tall and thin, long bleach blonde hair, and an orange face. She must wear about an inch of foundation, a whole tube of mascara, and don’t even get me started on the eyeliner. She looks like Shaylie had just done her makeup for her, or at least in the dark. But what I don’t understand is that everyone wants to look just like her. Why do people want to look exactly the same, and hideous? Whereas someone like me, short, skinny, brunette, pale complexion and a hint of makeup is considered ‘ugly’? Yeah, by who’s standards?

I guess everyone thought I’d join the ‘skank tank’. Yeah I came up with a name for ‘my own kind’. Just because I was popular back home, doesn’t mean I want to be again. Looking back though, it makes me wish I hadn’t let my so-called ‘friends’ be as awful as they were to the ‘nerd herd’. I’m sure they wish I had too.

I hate Foxford, I hate the people, and I hate my life. And guess what day it is tomorrow?
Monday.
Ugh.
