I was going to skip lesson 1 and 2. I really couldn’t face having Mr Davis
first thing, AND then Mrs Stevens straight after. Planning ahead, I was going
to sneak back in at break, just in time for history and drama. My plan was
going well until Shaylie burst in my room, dressed as a fairy, listening to me
babble on about skipping school, and watching me pack my bags with extra
clothes, my iPod and headphones, along with my secret stash of food. I was just
shoving the last bag of popcorn in my bag, when the small, but annoying voice
of my little sister boomed in my ear.
“I’m telling!” She said as she ran off. I immediately dropped my bags, and ran
after her.
“Shaylie! Come back!” I shouted behind her. She stopped, turned around, and
pulled a funny face at me. She stuck her tongue out and said;
“Make me!”
I took this chance to lunge forwards and grab her. Shaylie wasn’t fast enough,
and I dragged her back to my room.
“Let me go!” Shay protested.
Once she was in my room, I shut the door and stood in front of it, to make sure
she wouldn’t escape.
“Shay, what do you think I’m going to do today?” She looked at me with a very
confused face. I gestured towards my bag, and she let out a sigh.
“I don’t know,” She paused to think. “Eat all the popcorn and drink all the Pepsi?”
I smiled at her innocence. I really loved my little sister sometimes.
“Here,” I took a packet of popcorn out for her. “Have this as a snack at break
time, but don’t tell mum, okay?”
She grinned, and grabbed the popcorn from my hands. Shaylie then held out her
arms for a hug, and I bent down for her. We hugged for a while, until she told
me she needed to finish getting ready, since she was dressed as a fairy, not in
her uniform. She skipped out of the door in the cutest, childish manner.
I was fully dressed in my uniform, which I hated to bits. Today I opted for a
skirt, but then again I wouldn’t be wearing it for long. Our uniform consists
of a shirt/blouse, tie, trousers or a skirt, a grey jumper (in the winter) and
a blazer. I slung my bags on my shoulders, and hopped out the door, with a
slight spring in my step. I told mum I would get something to eat on the way.
I found some public toilets, and quickly got changed out of that atrocious
outfit, and into my comfortable shorts, tank top and cardigan. My top was blue
with stripes on, my shorts denim. I shoved my uniform into my bag, but being
careful enough not to crease it too much.
Feeling good, I walked along the road to nowhere until I finally came across
the town. I quickly found a Subway, and got a sandwich. I decided this would be
my lunch for the day, since I wasn’t going to eat at school, so I got out the
assorted goodies from my bag. I trailed along the streets in search of a bench.
I had already walked halfway down before I found a seat free. Who knew Eagleway
would be so busy this time of day?
The bench I’d finally chosen was occupied by a young guy, 16, 17 maybe? He
looked like he was trying to do the same as me; get a few hours away from hell.
“Hey, is this seat taken?” I asked as sweetly as I could.
He had headphones in, and couldn’t hear me completely. He gave me a strange
look, and then took them out.
“What?” I could hear his music blaring out of his headphones, my favourite band
playing.
“Is this seat taken?” I repeated, pointing at the empty seat next to him.
“Uhh, no I guess.” He replied, avoiding eye contact with me. I caught them a
few times, noting that they were a leafy green with flecks of gold. His hair
was a cross between blonde and brown, somewhere in the middle. Like a golden
brown. It was kind of messy, but in a cute way.
He began to draw something from his pocket, and then I realized it was a
cigarette packet.
“You want one?” He offered, with one hanging out of his mouth. I didn’t know
how to answer; if I said yes, I would be making the biggest mistake of my life,
and if I said no, I would look like a total chicken.
Guess what I did?
