“Rosen, I’ve got something I need to te-“
Kara burst in the door before I could finish. “Hi guys. Rose’ could you come
out here?” Lucian followed after her. I’m 99% sure he felt the same as me about
her. He and Rosen were best friends, after all.
“Hey, one second Robyn. Kara needs me.”
I sighed, and let him go. “Sure.”
They left, and after about a minute, all I heard was a bunch of angry shouts.
“What the hell! Why didn’t you tell me this earlier?” Rosen screamed. Lucian
and I shot each other concerned looks. We crawled up to the door, and listened
in on their conversation.
“I’m sorry. I was just waiting for the right time.” Kara sounded like she was
crying.
There was a brief silence.
“I missed you.” Rosen was a lot quieter this time round.
“You too, buddy.”
How could they miss each other? We’ve been on a man-hunt for over 3 weeks,
together this whole time.
That’s when it hit me. Kara wasn’t who she appeared to be. Her ‘experience’
with dangerous men revolved around one man. Her father. Rosen’s father. They
were brother and sister.
Kara wasn’t Kara, she was Olivia Clay.
Lucian also seemed to discover this, as he mouthed ‘Oh My God’ to me.
We returned to our original positions. I no longer had to worry about ‘Kara’
being in the way. Rosen wouldn’t fall in love with his little sister. My
chances had just doubled. With a sudden flair of hope, I smiled, for the first
time in months, I actually smiled. I had something to look forward to.
Rosen and Olivia came back in, tears streaming down their cheeks.
“Meet Olivia, my sister.” Rosen cried.
Olivia let out a small cry of joy. No words could explain her happiness, but
her eyes said it all.
“Welcome home,” Lucian brought the pair of them into a warm embrace, then
gestured for me to join them. Just like one, big, happy family, we laughed and
talked over dinner.
I took up a mothering role to them, and cooked almost every night, except for
when we shifted around and ordered takeaways. Olivia and I grew closer each
day, slowly becoming best friends. I trusted her 100% and confident she and
Rosen would get revenge on their father.
Rosen was usually preoccupied trying to find his father. So far, after a month
of being in Beakbank, we’d caught sight of Mitchel twice. Rosen grew impatient
and angrier every minute. It was understandable, but it was really taking a
toll on our relationship. Olivia seemed to be able to calm him down quite a
lot, but Lucian and I were almost powerless.
I was starting to get comfortable in Beakbank despite its reputation of danger,
violence and nastiness in general. I still wouldn’t go out after dark on my own.
I needed one of the boys to take me to the corner shop down the road. It wasn’t
the reputation that bothered me, it was the idea that Mitchel was walking the
streets a free man.
Rosen came running into our room. “I think I’ve found something.” He had a huge
grin on his face. The four of us huddled together whilst Rosen explained. “I
was in the lobby, asking about our room’s bill, when the receptionist left for
a few moments. Nobody else was around, so I took it upon myself to have a quick
look in the guest book. They have a registered Mitchel Clay here. He’s in this
building.”
